Reading Other’s Emotions and Feelings
Social empathy involves the capacity to be attuned to the internal reality of others as well as our own. It also helps us recognize how others can make us feel and react, and vice versa. Learn how to use your self-awareness skills to improve your effectiveness in relationships with others.
Differentiating Impulsive from Inattentive Reactions
The great majority of errors in decision-making are the result of impulsivity or inattention, often both at the same time. Yet avoiding impulsivity and maintaining attention involve different skill sets. MFC can teach you how to recognize the source of your mistakes and give you tools to enhance your decision-making even under difficult conditions.
MFC and Time
Every aspect of our lives is ruled by Time. Taking time gives us pleasure when we savor an experience or it can give us stress or TVE when we are pressed by a deadline. Time even dictates the way we make choices and the options we take in any given situation. See how you can most efficiently manage this most precious resource in your daily life.
Sequential Thinking
How often do we miss the forest for trees -paying attention to a detail while what is really important slips by? That happens when we take our eyes off the primary goal and instead allow a secondary goal to occupy our thoughts. MFC teaches you how to never lose sight of your true objective by avoiding multitasking and engaging in sequential thinking instead.
Four Steps Process After Focusing on the Goals
The key to better decision-making is a systematic four-step approach developed by MFC that involves mindful thinking, binary choice, and self-reflection. It is a metacognitive method that focuses on the way we think, not what we think. With MFC you know that you are always making choices and you can learn how to become a better chooser.
Clarity and Iconic Communication
We are constantly bombarded by “noise” – the barrage of stimuli that is always around us and competes for our attention. Noise can take many forms: internal confounding thoughts and feelings; external stimulation; and even the automatic reactions that seem to rule our lives. Noise confounds clarity. MFC provides clarity so one can see solutions that were never seen before. We use iconic communication to help internalize accurate perceptions and eliminate distortions in perception and judgment. Let us help you remove confusion, frustration, and uncertainty from your lives.

What is Peak-Performance
Have you ever wondered what life would be like if you could harness all your potential – mental and physical – and be the very best version of yourself? Imagine all the self-imposed limits and doubts, gone! You greet each day with a sense of excitement and possibility. Ordinary activities and interactions are easily managed without strain or conflict. You are always pushing the envelope, to see how far you can really go.
Focus on the Goal
Don’t get lost focusing on where you don’t want to go or what you don’t want to do. First, know where your going. Then work your way back from there. Apply MFC tools to develop your road map.
Breathing & Vagal Nervous System
The vagus nerve is one of the most nerves in the body. It regulates many of the most important functions including heart rate, blood pressure, digestion, and even speaking. Under stress, it can be overstimulated and cause serious dysfunction. With proper breathing, the vagus nerve can be “reset” and return us to ideal homeostatic responsivity. Biofeedback techniques can also be used to achieve optimal internal regulation.
Hormonal Influence
The mind/body connection is most prominent in the way our hormones operate. When the brain is aroused to initiate the Fight/Flight/Freeze response the body produces a particular set of hormones to give us the capacity to deal with threats. Yet the mind’s executive function abilities can alter our hormonal balance and bring calm and serenity. For peak performance we must not be overwhelmed by our emotions, driven by hormonal surges.
Acquiring Habits
To be at one’s best means all aspects of life are incorporated in the process of change. “A healthy mind in a healthy body” involves attention to our basic activities – sleeping, eating, and movement. It can be hard to alter maladaptive patterns that have been going on for years.

Improving Decision-Making The MFC Way
Mind-Focused Coaching has developed a transformative technology we call MindFulChoice®, to upgrade our thinking skills. MindFulChoice® enables us to make the best possible decision at every moment by mindfully perceiving all options and their probable outcomes. By identifying and making the optimal choice, we can avoid so many of life’s pitfalls.
Binary Choice
Choice is the basis of how we live. EVERYTHING we do is because we chose to do it. Choice is the power we have to shape our own lives. Every choice you make changes you. We are the sum total of our choices. It may seem that we have many choices in front of us, but in reality, we always only have two: to take a course of action or NOT. The word “binary” means 2. We may be making multiple binary choices in rapid succession, but each choice is binary.
Practicing Level 3 Preparedness
Most of us are not attuned to the way we think. It is like breathing – it just seems to happen. We plan and make decisions with three different levels of thought. Level 3 is an extremely brief period of mental processing, lasting up to a maximum of a few seconds. This level consists of reactions, rather than conscious decisions, errors can result in sudden disasters. Being prepared for Level 3 processing requires rehearsal and practice to help one to correctly anticipate and react. Even small physiological problems or the influence of substances can disrupt appropriate responses.
Developing Reason Over Emotion
MindFulChoice® is predicated upon the primacy of our frontal cortex executive functioning over our forebrain, impulse-driven reactivity. Executive function is the set of mental processes that people utilize to complete goal-directed tasks. Doing any task that involves planning and implementation involves executive function. It is also the mechanism for regulating impulses and emotions. MindFulChoice® places great importance on these processes because every choice requires the use of reason over impulses. When you allow impulses and emotions to interfere with decision-making you will create dysfunction.
MFC Four-Step Process
MindfulChoice® has developed a four-step, systemic approach to decision-making that begins with the utilization of mental shortcuts called heuristics to acknowledge all aspects of a given situation. The next step involves a sequential process of mindful thinking with the identification of binary options, and the probable consequences of each alternative. The third step brings us to choice and the selection of the best option. Lastly, there is a post-hoc self-evaluation to appraise the worthiness of our choice (learning what works). Result: the most suitable choice for reaching our desired destination.

Let it Go/Now is What Matters/Backward Design
Just about every psychological approach to changing one’s life shares an essential common goal: In order to move forward and have a better life one must Let Go of the enduring maladaptive patterns created by past events and inner distortions. Let It Go is the first step in the recipe for success. MFC can show you how to free yourself from the past.
Keeping the Eyes on the Goal/Focusing on the Solution
The human mind is not capable of multitasking, yet in pursuing a goal we often find ourselves trying to accomplish more than one task at a time. But only one action can be primary and any other activity is secondary. MFC can train you to recognize when a deviation of focus is occurring, and how to regain appropriate attention.
Positive Mindset/Sequential or Parallel Thinking
With the MFC approach, the pivotal moment of choice is that moment when you choose what type of attitude will shape your perception, thought process, and decision-making. How you view the choice will affect what you choose, and so attitude is essential to the process.
Six Thinking Hats
There are many ways to think, each one being most useful for a particular circumstance. MFC trains you in learning the methods of sequential thinking and parallel One of the most valuable resources for acquiring the skill to engage in parallel thinking is the Six Thinking Hats model developed by Edward De Bono. MFC has modified De Bono’s original work to make it even more effective.
MFC Self-Online Learning
Our MFC online course will train you to develop new ways of thinking, become fully aware of the world around you and your own inner world, and guide you to consistently choose the best course of action for any situation you encounter.
With these tools at hand you will be able to recognize and sidestep the negative impact of impulsivity and inattention – the most common causes of mistakes in decision-making. You will become immune to biased distortions and thoughtless habits.
